Well, it’s April and it’s snowing, welcome to Duluth! You’d think we’d be used to it but I’m not at least. What is your favorite Minnesota season?
Also, welcome to Mount Royal Dental’s first blog post! My plans for this blog is to be more interactive and inclusive with our most important piece of our practice– you guys, our patients. Let us know what things you’d like to see from us! Whether it’s all about teeth and dental care, to nutrition and how to take care of our teeth in-between cleanings, we want to know!
April in Duluth is known for jumping from last minute blizzards to 70 degree weather within a week, but it is also Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know at every dental exam with us, you get an oral cancer screening? Here is a list of the persistent and non-resolving signs your dentist will check for during your semi-annual exam:
- Any mouth sore that does not heal within two weeks
- Any abnormality that bleeds easily when touched
- A lump or hard tissue bordering the tongue
- A lump or thickening that develops in the mouth
Oral cancers are the sixth most common cancers in the world. Symptoms are easy to miss, which is one of the reasons why our dentists and hygienists take the time to screen. Next time you stop in, feel free to ask us any questions, especially if you have any of the symptoms listed above.
