You’ve heard the saying “An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away” right? What about dentists?! Apples are very good for you in many ways: staying hydrated, helping in weight loss, keeping your heart healthy and strong, and plenty more. What we typically don’t hear about is how they contain higher amounts of sugar and acid. The acid may cause the enamel on your teeth to wear down, making the chance for decay and sensitivity more possible. Sugar, as we know, can cause cavities. Apples are obviously still very healthy for you, so you shouldn’t give them up completely. Just make sure to rinse and brush your teeth 30 minutes after eating one!
What if you love eating apples, but want to protect your teeth? Avocados are excellent sources for strengthening your gums and teeth due to the high amounts of potassium. Avocados are also high in folic acid which helps in cell renewal; therefore strengthening gum tissue! Not to mention – avocados are a great substitute for many other ingredients! You can make a paste and spread it on toast or bagels instead of butter. Avocados can be added to some of your favorite recipes to make them healthier as well. They’re not only great for our teeth, but our overall health also!
